Welcome to The Promise School
We are a growing and vibrant community catering exclusively to students with language-based learning differences with a primary diagnosis of dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.
The students whom we are privileged to serve possess many gifts. We exist to expand their roots and grow their wings. We enter each day with an unwavering commitment to unlock their potential, instill self-confidence, and seed the joy of learning.
For students who learn differently, traditional education settings and approaches often fall short: inducing anxiety, fear, anger, self-doubt, and feelings of isolation. Students can be labeled as rude, disconnected, or lazy. Others that may not “standout” (for better or worse), are often left out, ignored, or even worse, become invisible.
We see your child. We see your child differently. We value and embrace their difference. We know that you seek something different for them. Something more, Something better. And so do we.
So, we built a different type of school, the foundation of which rests firmly on the fidelity to the Orton-Gillingham approach, guided diligently by our local Fellows. We cater to each student’s unique needs. We hire, train, and develop staff differently. We engage, educate, and support parents and families. We invest in OG for students through their middle school years, and we provide near year-round educational programming to ensure that our students maintain their gains.
Yet, to maximize their learning, we go beyond world-class instruction, bridging education, health, and therapeutic supports. Many dyslexic learners have interrelated medical, mental, and allied health needs. Left unattended, these health-related needs can stymie their academic achievement and well-being. These needs can include occupational therapy (O/T), speech and language pathology, self-regulation, physical skill development, sensory activation and movement, medication assessments and management, vision and auditory assessments/accommodations, counseling, and other therapeutic supports.
To fulfill our Promise to serve the whole child, our programming includes pet therapy, art therapy, music, jiu jitsu, community service, and specialized physical education that enhances skill development (working on strength, balance, and teamwork). Additionally, for students needing other services, (OT, Speech etc), our community partners serve our students during the school day, minimizing after school stress for students and families.
The Promise School is a community asset, where many hands, hearts and minds contribute to growing and developing gifted and amazing students. Your child is different, thus so are we. At the Promise School, Education and Healthcare are “Siblings NOT Strangers”—they have to be to ensure that your child will get all they need to grow.
